What is Zalgo Text?

Zalgo text — also known as cursed text, glitch text, or void text — is text that has been distorted by stacking dozens of Unicode combining diacritical marks (U+0300 – U+036F) above, below, and through ordinary letters. The result is an eerie, corrupted look that seems to bleed and decay across the line. The name comes from a 2004 internet meme called 'He Comes' (H̶͙̅e̸̢̛͝ ̶̱̾c̵͜͠o̴̮̓m̶̪̿e̸̗͆s̶̰̊), which spawned the legend of an entity named Zalgo that corrupts everything it touches. Because Zalgo text is built from real Unicode characters — not images — it can be copied and pasted into any modern app that supports Unicode: Instagram bios, Discord usernames, TikTok captions, Twitter/X posts, even console games. This tool gives you three intensity levels so you can tune the cursed look from a subtle shiver to full apocalyptic chaos.

Why Use This Zalgo Text Generator

Three Cursed Intensities

Mild glitch keeps text readable, Medium adds noticeable corruption, Full Zalgo turns letters into a vertical scream — pick the right vibe for the platform.

Real Unicode, Real Copy-Paste

Output is pure text built from Unicode combining marks, so it works on any modern OS, browser, and app without screenshots or fonts.

Instant, No Sign-Up

Type and it corrupts in real time. No accounts, no downloads, no character limits — generate as much cursed text as you want.

Built for Social Media

Tested on Instagram, TikTok, Discord, Twitter/X, WhatsApp, Telegram, Reddit, and Snapchat to make sure the glitch effect actually shows up.

Mobile & Desktop Friendly

Works on phones, tablets, and desktops. Tap-to-copy is optimized for touch so you can curse text from anywhere.

Safe Pure Text

Zalgo text is just standard Unicode — it can never contain malware. The worst it can do is lag a very old phone if you stack the most extreme level.

Zalgo Text Platform Compatibility

Zalgo uses Unicode combining marks supported by every modern OS. Some apps limit how many marks render per character — extreme levels may be slightly trimmed, but the effect still works.

Frequently Asked Questions About Zalgo Text

What's the difference between cursed text, glitch text, and Zalgo text?

They all refer to the same effect: text decorated with Unicode combining marks to make it look corrupted. 'Zalgo' is the original 2004 meme name; 'cursed text' is the common modern term; 'glitch text' emphasizes the broken digital look. Our generator produces all three under three intensity levels.

Is Zalgo text safe to copy and paste?

Yes. Zalgo text is just standard Unicode characters — it cannot contain a virus, a tracker, or a script. Worst case, an extremely high-intensity string may render slowly on very old devices.

Why does Zalgo text look less intense on some platforms?

Some apps (notably parts of iOS, Discord, and Instagram) clip how many combining marks they render per character for performance reasons. The full Unicode is still there in the clipboard — it just displays a bit shorter visually.

Can I use Zalgo text in a Discord username?

Yes, Discord supports Zalgo in nicknames and messages. For account display names there's a length limit, so the Mild or Medium preset usually fits better than Full Zalgo.

Can screen readers read Zalgo text?

Screen readers will read the underlying letters but may also announce each combining mark, which gets noisy fast. Avoid using Zalgo for important information — it's an aesthetic effect, not an accessible one.

How do I remove Zalgo from a piece of text?

You can strip combining marks by normalising to NFD and removing characters in the U+0300–U+036F range. If you need a tool, our main Cursed Text generator on the homepage supports paste-to-restore in one click.
