Glitch Text Generator
Free glitch text generator with scanline, strikethrough and digital corruption effects. Copy-paste cyber text for Instagram, Discord and TikTok.
What is Glitch Text?
Glitch text is text that looks like a broken digital signal — characters appear corrupted by horizontal scanlines, static, strikethroughs, or vibrating offsets, the same way an old CRT screen distorts an image when reception is lost. Unlike pure Zalgo (which stacks chaotic marks vertically), glitch aesthetics lean cyber, vaporwave, and synthwave: hacker terminals, hacked HUDs, corrupted video files, lo-fi VHS captions. This generator builds glitch effects from real Unicode characters. It combines two intensities of vertical glitch with a full suite of line-based scanline effects: strikethrough (U+0336), underline (U+0332), double underline (U+0333), overline (U+0305), and slashed (U+0337). Because the output is pure Unicode — not images — you can paste it into Instagram bios, Discord usernames, TikTok captions, Twitter/X posts, YouTube titles, even Roblox display names.
How to Make Glitch Text
- Type your text — Enter the words you want to glitch. Works with English, numbers, and most Latin alphabets.
- Pick a glitch style — Choose from soft/hard digital noise (vertical combining marks) or scanline-style line effects (strikethrough, underline, overline, double underline, slashed).
- Click to copy — Tap any line and the glitched version goes straight to your clipboard.
- Paste anywhere — Drop it into a Discord username, a Twitter/X bio, a TikTok caption, a Spotify playlist title — anywhere Unicode is supported.

Popular Uses for Glitch Text
Cyberpunk Discord Names
Strikethrough or scanline-styled usernames immediately read as cyberpunk, hacker, or AI-themed — perfect for tech servers and gaming communities.
Vaporwave Aesthetics
Glitch fits the vaporwave/synthwave/glitchcore visual language. Use it in Instagram bios, TikTok overlays, and aesthetic playlist titles.
Hacker Roleplay & ARG
Corrupted scanline text is the universal shorthand for 'this signal is broken' in ARGs, ARG clue threads, and creepypasta.
Striking Spotify Playlists
S̶t̶r̶i̶k̶e̶t̶h̶r̶o̶u̶g̶h̶ playlist titles stand out instantly in a feed of normal text — great for moody or breakup playlists.
Frequently Asked Questions About Glitch Text
What's the difference between glitch text and Zalgo text?
They overlap, but they're not identical. Zalgo is the chaotic vertical stacking that looks like decay or possession — built for horror. Glitch is broader: it includes Zalgo-style effects but also scanline strikes, slashes, and underlines that evoke digital corruption, hacker terminals, and vaporwave aesthetics. This page leans more cyber than horror.
Is glitch text safe to use?
Yes. Glitch text is pure standard Unicode — no scripts, no payloads. It's just decorated text. The worst case is an extremely heavy combining-mark string rendering slowly on very old phones.
Will glitch text work in usernames?
Most platforms accept combining-mark and strikethrough characters in usernames, including Discord, Twitter/X, and Instagram. Some platforms strip them or have length limits — for those, the line-based effects (strikethrough, underline) usually work better than heavy vertical glitch.
Can I read glitch text with a screen reader?
Screen readers will announce the base letters but may also speak each combining mark individually, which gets noisy. Don't use glitch text for important info — keep it for aesthetic decoration.
How do I remove glitch / strikethrough from text?
Normalise the string to NFD and strip characters in the U+0300–U+036F range. Our main Cursed Text generator on the homepage handles this automatically — just paste your glitch text into the cursed input.
Why do some platforms cut off the glitch effect?
Apps like Discord and Instagram cap how many combining marks they render per character for performance. The underlying characters are still in the clipboard, the visual is just slightly trimmed. Scanline effects (one mark per letter) are unaffected.
